Tracking world technology development trend, the corporation constantly increases science and technology input, and by means of planning, design, constructing and driving practice in thousands of projects, have distilled a large amount of highly competitive refinery and petrochemical techniques and are making them core techniques of competitiveness. Up to 30th November 2016, the corporation had 2,195 patents in China, including 949 invention patents, 44 foreign patents, covering such sectors as oil refinery, petrol chemistry, new coal chemistry, medical chemistry, clean energy and environmental engineering.

From 1990 to 2016, the corporation successively won 74 state invention awards and science and technology awards, among them 2 state invention awards class I, 3 state science and technology advance special awards and 11 state science and technology advance awards class I; 919 ministry and province-level invention awards and science and technology advance awards, among them 1 invention special awards and 3 invention awards class I, 6 science and technology advance special awards and 125 science and technology advance awards class I.
