Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Xu Chengen/p>

Xu Chengen (1927~): Oil refining technique design expert of China and director of Experts Committee of Sinopec Engineering Incorporation (SEI), with domicile of origin in Zhuji City, Zhejiang Province. He graduated from chemical engineering major of Zhejiang University in 1949. He has been engaged in engineering design work of oil refining plants for a long time, and once took the post of president of Sinopec Beijing Design Institute. He successively participated in and hosted examination of engineering design work of six large-size oil refining plants in China such as Yanshan Plant and Fujian Plant and two oil refining plants of aid to foreign countries, making prominent achievements; he participated multiple times of oil refining technique problem tackling work organized by Ministry of Petroleum Industry and Sinopec, and made important contribution in aspects such as key technical problems tackling and engineering design of urea dewaxing, molecular sieve dewaxing, atmospheric residual catalytic cracking and methyl tert-butyl ether synthesis, and energy saving technological transformation of oil refining plants.

In 1979, No. 1 atmospheric and vacuum distillation energy saving technological transformation of Shanghai Oil Refining Plant was successfully implemented, reducing energy consumption by 35%, and the achievement obtained the First Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award; in 1982, as the leader of Special Gasoline Quality Enhancement Group (Gasoline Quality Improvement Group) of Ministry of Petroleum Industry, he implemented projects such as promotion and application of low Pt-Re catalytic reforming catalyst, development of wide cut catalytic reforming and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) and improvement of gasoline sweetening, in which the research of production and application of methyl tert-butyl ether obtained the First Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award; in 1987, the Daqing atmospheric residual catalytic cracking technology for which he was in charge of key problem tackling obtained the First Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award; in 1994, the engineering design project of Fujian Oil Refining Plant that was guided by him obtained the “National Engineering Design Special Award”; in 2003, the project of “21st century 10 Mtpa level oil refining plant concept design (research)” in which he was the second undertaker obtained commendation from Sinopec Group; in 2008, the monograph “Catalytic Reforming Technique and Engineering” of which he was the first author obtained the First Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award from Sinopec Group; in 2010, the single series large size oil refining technology integration development and industrial application project in which he was in charge of technical review obtained the Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award; in 2014, the second edition of “Catalytic Reforming Technique and Engineering” which was compiled chiefly by him was published.

He was granted with the title of “China Engineering Survey and Design Master” by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development in the first batch in 1989, chosen through appraisal as “expert with outstanding contribution for science, technology and management” by Sinopec in 1990, granted with national government allowance in 1991 and elected as the first batch of academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1994.
