Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Chen Junwu
Chen Junwu (1927~): Founder of oil refining catalytic cracking engineering technology of China and a well known expert of coal-chemical technology of China, with ancestral home in Changle, Fujian. He graduated from Chemical Industry Department of Peking University in June 1948. He designed the first set of 600 Ktpa fluid catalytic cracking unit of China in 1960s. In dozens of years, he has developed a serial of reaction-regeneration engineering technologies in the field of catalytic cracking, so that the catalytic cracking engineering technology of China has reached the advanced level in the world. He proposed the theory and design method for maintaining catalytic cracking material balance through element balance (especially hydrogen element) in the theory field of oil refining technique; guided the research of petroleum base group conversion rule in different oil refining technique processes; and cultivated a batch of high level science research and design experts for the oil refining industry of China. “Catalytic Cracking Technique and Engineering” compiled by him is an important technical monograph in the field of catalytic cracking, the monograph “General Theory of Petroleum Substitution” published in 2009 is an important reference book for new energy field, and the monograph “Research of Medium/Long Term Carbon Emission Reduction Strategy Target of China” closely related to greenhouse gas emission reduction was published in 2012.
The 500 Ktpa coaxial riser catalytic cracking technique of Lanzhou Oil Refining Plant designed under his guidance obtained National Outstanding Design Gold Award in 1984 and the First Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award in 1985; the Daqing atmospheric residual catalytic cracking technology developed in 1986 when he took the post of National “6th Five-year Plan Period” Catalytic Cracking Key-problem Tackling Taskforce obtained the First Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award; the first set of 600 Ktpa olefine unit designed under his guidance in 2010 which can use both methanol and dimethyl ether as raw material to produce olefine (DMTO) was successfully brought into production and obtained the Technical Invention Special Award from China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation; the “methanol-to-light olefine (DMTO) technology” obtained the First Prize of National Technical Invention Award in 2014.
He was elected as China Engineering Survey and Design Master in 1990 and was elected as member of Chemical Council of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (academician) in 1991.
