In the annual safety assessment of 2024 by Saudi Aramco’s Refining and LNG division, SEG stood out among numerous contractors from refineries such as Ras Tanura, Juaymah, Riyadh, Yanbu, and Jazan, winning earning the prestigious title of "Outstanding Contractor for Safety Execution and Environmental Optimization of the year."
In 2023, the former contractor for Saudi Aramco’s BI-163 project was trapped in the trouble related to funding, progress, quality, and safety etc., finally leading to their withdrawal and almost project suspension. At this critical moment, Saudi Aramco entrusted SEG with the capability of saving the project, relying on the experienced EP2 Task Force of SNEI.
Confronted with tight schedule, heavy workloads, and stringent standards, the EP2 Task Force moved forward facing the difficulties. Project Department rose to the occasion. With the high-quality requirements of Saudi Aramco and the delayed project schedule, the team must complete the installation of 16 equipment units; welding, installation, pressure testing, and anti-corrosion treatment of over 10,000 inches of piping; installation of more than 20,000 meters of electrical cables and instruments; construction of over 500 cubic meters of high-quality concrete flooring and water channels while ensuring safety and quality. Despite of such challenges, the Task Force remained steadfast, taking it as an opportunity to show the capability of Chinese enterprises.

The Task Force set up a skilled and experienced team quickly, conducting in-depth research to formulate a scientific and practical construction plan. A reverse scheduling approach was adopted, breaking down tasks to a daily and even hourly level. Seamless coordination with Saudi Aramco ensured timely inspections and approvals, while weekend and overtime shifts were leveraged to mitigate delays caused by frequent design changes.

Adhering to the principle of "Quality First," the team rigorously implemented Saudi Aramco’s standards. Advanced construction techniques and equipment were introduced, and top-tier subcontractors were carefully selected to ensure excellence in every work of the project, laying a solid basis for high-quality delivery.
l Overcoming Challenges with Dedication and Expertise
Facing hard working and complex challenges, the Task Force demonstrated exceptional resilience, overcoming numerous technical difficulties with remarkable execution capabilities and professional expertise. Their dedication to excellence presented the strong working ability and profession of Chinese engineers.
l Prioritizing Safety and People-Oriented
Safety remained the top priority throughout the project. The team strictly enforced the safety responsibility system, enhanced safety training, and implemented comprehensive risk control measures to ensure smooth and secure project execution.
Through relentless effort, the BI-163 project is now entering into the commissioning phase, obtaining high praise from Saudi Aramco. The project’s successful completion not only revived the project but also earned good reputation for SEG in international market.
As a model of SEG’s commitment to the Belt and Road Initiative, the BI-163 project exemplifies Chinese growing participation in international competition and collaboration.
